Tesselaarsdal
The Brief
The couple bought a farm just outside the quiet small town of Tesselaarsdal, and needed a home that fit into the breathtaking landscape. With sloping mountainsides and unobstructed all-round views, this site offered a closeness to nature.
The Design
The house was orientated to optimally use the northern views and sun. Two diagonal walls were designed around the house to shelter the northern living spaces from the south-eastern and north-western winds.
The design incorporated stone from the site, to fit the house into its surroundings. An inside braai and small Dover stove in a fire hearth were incorporated in an open plan layout. All bedrooms and living spaces had access to the outside.
