Stellentia Farm House
The Brief
The Groenewalds have a love for dogs, their basset hounds and Spinone Italiano, which was why they needed to move to a smallholding. This offers more space for the dogs and some quietness, with no rushing cars or sirens audible, only natures sounds.
And this was exactly what they needed as both had full time, highly demanding jobs. With no children (except for the dogs) in this family, they required a smaller home, easier to maintain, but designed with the dogs' needs in mind.
The Design
They bought a plot with a 3 bedroom wooden cottage. A complete renovation of the cottage was done, changing the main home into a 2 bedroom house, with the guest bedroom and bathroom downstairs, and the main en suite bedroom on the first floor. An open plan kitchen, dining and living area was created, with a large scullery.
A covered stoep area hosts a braai, cleverly designed to shield the western afternoon sun from the glass façade of the home whilst maintaining the sea view over Gordon's Bay. In the kitchen, main bedroom and loft apartment, windows were strategically placed to frame the beautiful mountain views. The two guest bedrooms of the original house were converted into a one-bedroom loft apartment, with a large bedroom, kitchenette, living area and bathroom.
