Longifolia -Stellenbosch
The Brief
This property was bought by a new family that needed to update the building to be current and address their need for better entertainment space and additional garages with separate guest room and space for teenagers to be away from the entertainment area
The Design
The main objective was to enlarge the garages and utilise the space above it for the guest room and lounge.
With the original building the front door of the house was uninviting and set back.
The need for a stair to link the area above the garage allowed to create a light filled double volume foyer that is giving a breathing space before going into the rest of the house.
The material usage of the extension was borrowed from the existing painted brick facade and roof sheeting. All new areas was left flush pointed unpainted and the section over the garage received a roof cladding as wall covering imulationg the idea of an occupied roof space but in a modern way with clean lines.
The pergola suspended from the first floor creates a welcoming approach to the front door and also reference back to the widely used pergolas covered in vine in Stellenbosch.
The Patio extension received a glass roof to ensure that none of the splendid mountain views is lost but still give you a dry area to relax next to the pool
