DaGama Apartment - Strand
The Brief
The client wanted an updated "pad" that can will be able to air BnB.
The outdated layout had to be changed to step into the current trend to make this property a wannabe place to stay on the beach front in Strand.
The Design
This property is located on the ground floor and right on Beach road. Maybe not the most architectural forward buildings in strand but the view and location on main beach makes this property a gem.
The requirement of the client to have a air bnb facility with a big return ment that this 3 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment with low ceilings had to be turned into a 3 bedroom ensuite entertainers dream.
Firstly the layout was reconfigured to give the main bedroom privacy at the back of the unit. All screen walls from the scullery was removed to get an open plan feel and turn the dark space into an show kitchen for entertaining.
As an added bonus the covered and inclosed stoep had to be turned onto the main event. We added a small martini pool looking out over the beach and ocean with a true South African spirit braai and wine bar area. This is linked into the open plan entertainment area with an extra big sliding door that opens up to create a seamless flow of space from the inside to the entertaining stoep.
Removing the old ceilings we discovered a fantastic off-shutter concrete slab allowing us a 3,5m high ceiling. Unfortunately with all older buildings some services could not be moved so we had to place bulkheads in certain areas to conceal it.
Unfortunately the outside and positioning of openings are not permitted to change due to HOA regulations.
